Digital Platforms

A collection of digital tools and information resources for anthropological research.

Through collaborations with various partners, the FID SKA provides access to existing digital platforms for ethnological research communities and ethnographic researchers, and supports their editorial development. During the current funding period (2025–2027), the focus is on five key digital research and information platforms.

The Platform for Experimental Collaborative Ethnography (PECE) was developed by anthropologists at the University of California, Irvine. This digital research infrastructure enables the collaborative analysis and multimodal publication of data generated through ethnographic research. PECE is built on Drupal and hosted across various thematic instances. In German-speaking countries, the STS Infrastructures instance is currently the most widely used.

Please note that while the interface of this platform is available in English, the contents are mostly in German.

SocioHub is a communication and collaboration platform developed by the FID Sociology. In SocioHub groups, researchers can work together across institutions—for example in working groups or projects—using a wide range of tools. The platform has been opened for use by ethnologists. In the EKW & SKA Community, users can share content relevant to the ethnological disciplines.

DATA AFFAIRS is an information and learning platform on data management in ethnographic research. It focuses on providing knowledge for a reflective and systematic approach to qualitative research data through informative texts, practical tips for research work, and reports and examples from the field. The content is available both as articles and as interactive learning units with application-oriented exercises.
