Promotionsstelle im DFG-Projekt „Curating the Feed: Interdisciplinary Perspectives on Digital Image Feeds and their Curatorial Assemblages" am Ludwig-Uhland-Institut für Empirische Kulturwissenschaft, Universität Tübingen

An der Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen, Ludwig-Uhland-Institut für Empirische Kulturwissenschaft, ist 
zum 01.02.2023 (oder zum frühestmöglichen Zeitpunkt) eine Stelle als
Wissenschaftliche*r Mitarbeiter*in (m/w/d; TV-L E13, 65%)
zu besetzen. Die Stelle ist auf 36 Monate befristet.

 

Zu den Aufgaben gehören:
* Eigenständige wissenschaftliche Arbeit im interdisziplinären Projekt „Curating the Feed: Interdisciplinary Perspectives on Digital Image Feeds and their Curatorial Assemblages" mit Schwerpunkt auf Digitale Anthropologie und ethnografische Forschung. Die Promotionsstelle fokussiert einerseits auf die User*innen von Social Media Feeds und beleuchtet die Relevanz dieser Feeds für individuelle Lebenswelten; zugleich fragt sie mit interdisziplinären Ansätzen nach der Rolle von künstlicher Intelligenz/maschinellen Lernverfahren und Algorithmen.
* Eigene wiss. Qualifizierung durch Promotion im Rahmen der wissenschaftlichen Arbeit im Projekt.
* Interdisziplinäre Zusammenarbeit mit Projektmitarbeiter*innen aus Medienwissenschaft und Informatik in Kooperation mit der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar im Rahmen des Projekts; interdisziplinäre Zusammenarbeit mit den Mitgliedern des DFG-Schwerpunktprogramms „Das digitale Bild"
* Teilnahme am Digital Anthropology Lab der Universität Tübingen: https://uni-tuebingen.de/de/226959 

 

Vorausgesetzt wird:
* sehr gut abgeschlossenes Hochschulstudium (MA oder gleichwertig) der Empirischen Kulturwissenschaft/Kulturanthropologie/Europäischen Ethnologie, oder
* sehr gut abgeschlossenes Hochschulstudium (MA oder gleichwertig) benachbarter Fächer wie der Medienwissenschaft, Soziologie oder Kulturwissenschaft, sofern Grundkenntnisse in der ethnografischen Forschung vorliegen
Bitte beachten: das Abschlusszeugnis muss zum Zeitpunkt der Bewerbung noch nicht vorliegen, wenn es bis zum Stellenantritt eingereicht werden kann (siehe auch Bewerbungsunterlagen).
* sehr gute Englischkenntnisse
* sehr gute Deutschkenntnisse, oder
* Gute Deutschkenntnisse und Bereitschaft zur Teilnahme an Deutsch-Sprachkursen der Universität Tübingen

 

Von Vorteil sind:
* Bestehende Erfahrungen im Forschungsfeld Digitale Anthropologie oder vergleichbare
* Interdisziplinäre Studien- oder Forschungserfahrung
* Digitale Kompetenzen (bspw. im Bereich computergestützte Datenanalyse, Webdesign, Bild- und Videobearbeitung)

PhD-Position "Curating the Feed: Interdisciplinary Perspectives on Digital Image Feeds and their Curatorial Assemblages" at the Ludwig Uhland Institute for Historical and Cultural Anthropology, University of Tübingen (Germany)

 

At the University of Tübingen, Ludwig Uhland Institute for Historical and Cultural Anthropology, there is a
PhD Position (m/w/d; TV-L E13, 65%)
available to be filled by 1 February 2023 (or the earliest possible starting date).
The position is limited to 36 month.

 

Main Tasks:
* Independent academic work in the interdisciplinary research project "Curating the Feed: Interdisciplinary Perspectives on Digital Image Feeds and their Curatorial Assemblages" with a main focus on digital anthropology and ethnographic research. The PhD researcher will focus on the users of social media feeds and how the feeds affect their everyday lives, while also asking with interdisciplinary approaches about the role of artificial intelligence/machine learning and algorithms. 
* Academic qualification through doctorate/dissertation as part of the research within the project.
* Interdisciplinary collaboration with project members in media studies and computer science at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar; interdisciplinary cooperation with the members of the DFG priority programme "The Digital Image"

Requirements:

* very good university degree (MA or equivalent) in cultural anthropology / European ethnology
* very good university degree (MA or equivalent) in related subjects such as media studies, sociology or cultural studies, provided the applicant has experience with ethnographic research
Please note: the degree certificate does not have to be available at the time of application if it can be submitted by the time the position starts (see also application documents).
* very good English language skills
* very good German language skills, or
* Good German language skills and willingness to participate in German language courses at the University of Tübingen

Advantageous are:
* Previous experience in the research field of digital anthropology or similar fields
* Interdisciplinary study or research experience
* Digital and data skills (e.g. in the field of computer-assisted data analysis, web design, image and video editing)
