Research Associate in Social and Cultural Anthropology

Institution: Faculty of Humanities, Department of Studies in Culture and Arts, Institute of Social and Cultural Anthropology
Salary level: EGR. 13 TV-L
Start date: as soon as possible, the initial fixed term is three years. (This is a fixed-term contract in accordance with Section 2 of the academic fixed-term labor contract act [Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz, WissZeitVG]).

Weekly hours: 65 % of standard work hours per week
Your responsibilities
Research associates will be expected primarily to teach and conduct research. The research associate will also have the opportunity to pursue further academic qualifications, in particular a doctoral dissertation. At least one-third of set working hours will be made available for the research associate’s own academic work.
In research, teaching (2 hours per week) and administration, you will participate in the development of the research focus “Colonialism, Capitalism and Law” at the Institute of Social and Cultural Anthropology at the University of Hamburg.
Your profile
- A university degree in a relevant field.
- You intend to pursue a PhD project in Social and Cultural Anthropology that deals with the plurality of normative orders, for example in the field of legal anthropology, political anthropology or the anthropology of religion.
- In addition to the usual documents (cover letter, CV, certificates), please submit a copy of your M.A. thesis and a brief sketch of your proposed research project (1 page) with your application.
