Postdoctoral Researcher (Anthropology)

The Global South Studies Center invites applications for a full-time postdoctoral position in the research project “Medium-scale farmers in rural Africa: Transformations in belonging, property, kinship and power’“ funded by the Volkswagen Foundation.
YOUR TASKS
- independent, qualitative-ethnographic research on domestic entrepreneurs in agriculture in Namibia, Tanzania and Ghana
- research on agrarian change in the context of, amongst others, changing urban and rural relations, agri-food value chains, intergenerational inheritance and local politics that mediating access to resources
- writing publications and presenting research in international conferences
- researching and bringing together methods, theories and case studies in a comparative research design
- project coordination in close collaboration with partner institutions in Africa
YOUR PROFILE
- doctoral degree in Social and Cultural Anthropology or related discipline
- proven experience in ethnographic research, preferably in rural areas of the Global South
- fitness and flexibility to travel to remote rural places
- excellent analytical and organizational skills
- pertinent publication record
- excellent command of written and spoken English
- team-oriented and interested in continuing your professional development
- motivated to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary research team
