CALL FOR ENTRIES: AGENET-VANEASA-AAGE 2021 Award for the Best Visual Ethnographic Material Addressing Aging and the Life Course
AGENET, AAGE and VANEASA are inviting anthropological works which through the employment of visual methods address the issues surrounding aging and the life course in creative ways, offering new modes of engagement and understanding.

The EASA's Age and Generations Network (AGENET) and the Association for Anthropology, Gerontology and the Life Course (AAGE) are dedicated to exploring age, the life course and generations as sites of social experimentation. In collaboration with the EASA's Visual Anthropology Network (VANEASA), we are inviting anthropological works which through the employment of visual methods address the issues surrounding aging and the life course in creative ways, offering new modes of engagement and understanding.
The jury will award up to 600 EUR in prize money for the most esteemed entry/ies. There is no entry fee. The best submitted works will be presented during AGENET slow online conference in the autumn 2021, and mentioned on AGENET, VANEASA and AAGE communication platforms. The authors of the best submitted works may be asked to participate in the conference Q&A sessions and related panels.

Applicants:
You do not have to be AGENET, VANEASA or AAGE member to apply. The eligible works must connect to the anthropological concerns about aging, the life course, care and/or (inter) generational issues. They must be created through the employment of visual methods (e.g., audiovisual material, drawings, graphics, photography, visual digital works, interactive applications, exhibition designs). Non-English language productions should be submitted with English subtitles (for videos) or appendix with an appropriate translation (for other types of entries). The submitted material must have been produced between 2018 and 2021.
Both students and professionals are encouraged to apply!
The jury will be comprised of visual anthropologists and anthropologists of aging and the life course. The jury reserves the right to determine each entry's eligibility.

Submissions:

Submissions should be made before 23:59, 6th September 2021 to ava2021award(at)gmail.com. In case of large files, the applicants can either send an online link to the page on which their video or other material is uploaded (with password if needed) or send the material through https://wetransfer.com/
or Google Drive.

After the jury verdict:
For better promotion of the award, we will ask the authors of the best submitted works to send us a text description of the project with a maximum of 75 words and a jpg file representing the project. These should be sent within 7 days after the notification of the jury's verdict.
The best submitted works will be presented during the AGENET slow online conference in the autumn 2021, and mentioned on AGENET, VANEASA and AAGE communication platforms. The authors of the best submitted works may be asked to participate in the conference Q&A sessions and related panels.

Copyrights:
Submission of a work implies that the person submitting it is also the holder of the relevant copyrights or has secured the appropriate permissions. The organizers will not check whether the materials have been cleared, nor will the organizers be held responsible for any legal issues that may arise from the use of uncleared material. It is the applicant's sole responsibility to get permission from the copyright holder music, stock footage or any other material that could violate copyright of third parties.
By submitting the material, the applicants agree that the material or its fragments may be screened/displayed during the AGENET slow online conference in October-November 2021 and that a jpg file representing the project may be permanently displayed (with no due date) on AGENET, AAGE and VANEASA communication platforms. By submitting the material, the applicants confirms that all copyright material has been cleared and that he or she, and not the organizers, will be held responsible if any copyright issues arise in relation to the submitted material and its publication during the AGENET slow online conference discussed above and at AGENET, AAGE and VANEASA communication platforms.
