Your impact space:

Your future position is at the Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology in the team of Univ.-Prof. Dr. Ayse Caglar. The team is characterized by its research in the areas of the Political Economy of Urban Governance, Displacement and Dispossession. You strengthen the team by your expertise in the field of anthropology of extraction, labour, violence and governance of migrants and refugees.

As part of the Faculty of Social Sciences, the Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology not only brings together renowned academics and students, but also different fields of research, ethnographic diversity of methods, a large number of outstanding research projects and appreciative exchange between colleagues.

This position is to be filled by October 7, 2024 and is limited until October 6, 2027 (3 years).

Your future tasks:

  • You take on administrative tasks in research, teaching and administration. As an important role of the team you support various pertinent matters, respectively tasks with and or for the team.
  • You hold courses independently at the Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology within the scope of the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement
  • You build up an independent research profile in one of the above-mentioned fields through your own research project.
  • You raise funds for your research project.
  • You publish internationally and participate in international conferences and workshops to present your work.
  • You contribute actively to third party funding project applications.
  • You cooperate in the organization of international workshops and conferences and in the preparation of publications. You prepare a publication of your dissertation or a habilitation.
  • You supervise your students within the frame of the regulations at the Department and the University.
  • You participate in evaluation measures and in quality assurance.

This is part of your personality:

  • Completed doctoral/PhD studies in subject Social and Cultural Anthropology or Sociology (in exceptional cases in Geography)
  • Outstanding dissertation
  • International publications in peer-reviewed journals
  • Fieldwork experience
  • Didactic skills
  • Experience in grant applications
  • Excellent knowledge of English (C1) / knowledge of another foreign language is an advantage
  • Team player and high social/communicative skills
