For the joint project "Regional Research Center - Transformations of Political Violence" we are looking for the following position as of April 1, 2022
a PhD student (m/f/d) (65%),
salary group TV-H 13,
for a period of four years (fixed-term contract according to WissZVG).
The joint project "Regional Research Center - Transformations of Political Violence" is a cooperation project of PRIF, Goethe University Frankfurt, Justus Liebig University Gießen, Philipps University Marburg and Technical University Darmstadt. It is an interdisciplinary research initiative funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research.
The center is dedicated to the study of political violence and brings together different disciplinary perspectives as well as methodological approaches for this purpose. The interplay of different types and levels of political violence as well as their transformations are systematically investigated in four working groups: 1. forms of political violence, 2. institutions for the prevention and legitimation of political violence, 3. interpretations of political violence, and 4. synergies.
We are looking for an outstanding and highly qualified PhD student to strengthen the interdisciplinary Regional Research Center in the field of interpretations and attributions of meaning of political violence.
The range of tasks of this position, which is located at PRIF, includes in particular:
- Develop and conduct a PhD project in the context of work package 3.1 "Interpretation of Violence" with the aim of researching changes in the patterns of justification and attributions of meaning of political violence as well as the consequences of these transformations in the context of colonial relations and decolonization;
- Conduct qualitative field research in the Global South as part of the intended research project;
- Participate in publications of the collaborative project and PRIF;
- Maintain and further develop local, national and international networking of the collaborative project and PRIF;
- Contribute to the overarching activities of the Center, such as knowledge transfer;
- Willingness to interdisciplinary cooperation and to communicate research results to the political and social public as well as participation in the committees of PRIF self-administration.
Requirements for a successful application for the PhD position are a very good Master's degree (or comparable) in a relevant cultural or social science as well as a doctoral exposé in the field of the above mentioned topic.
