Multimedia Anthropology Lab
University College London
09 December 2021, 6pm (GMT, Berlin 7pm)
The UCL Multimedia Anthropology Lab (UCL MAL) is pleased to invite you to its End of Year Showcase presenting ongoing Experiments in Collaborative Heritage project, produced in collaboration with Guarani and Kaiowá Indigenous communities in Brazil. UCL MAL is an interdisciplinary research network led by postgraduate students at UCL, dedicated to developing innovative approaches to producing and presenting research.
This project, made possible by support from the British Museum's EMKP, UCL Grand Challenges and UCL Global Engagement, is composed of three core strands: a Guarani and Kaiowá Virtual Museum co-curated and directed by community shamans and elders; a Multimedia Digital Archive of Guarani and Kaiowá knowledge filmed and recorded by community members and edited by our video team for inclusion in the British Museum´s EMKP's repository; as well as an Interactive Map of Violence presenting data gathered by Guarani and Kaiowá women themselves.
Join UCL MAL on Thursday the 9th of December at 6pm (GMT) for an overview of the multimedia experiments being developed across MAL´s teams. Guarani and Kaiowá filmmakers Luan Iturve and Scott Hill will share their reflections on filming their heritage for the EMKP archive; UCL MAL will present selected works from the sound, video, 3D modelling and VR design teams, inviting an open conversation about process and method; and the project´s three key coordinators: Jaqueline Aranduhá - Guarani and Kaiowá anthropologist, Fabiana Fernandes - President of IDAC, and Raffaella Fryer-Moreira - Co-Founder and Director of UCL MAL will situate the current work within the project´s broader aims and plans for future development.
The event will take place online, and will include simultaneous translation in Portuguese, Spanish, and English. While the event is free to join, please register for a ticket at the link below:
