Beschreibung
The interdisciplinary research group on “Migration and Public Health” brings together scholars at the University of Göttingen from various disciplines (Cultural Anthropology, Development Economics, Medical Ethics and History of Medicine, Philosophy, Psychology, Social and Political Sciences). The research group investigates international norm- and regime-building processes in the areas of migration and health. It aims to address how the “protection of life” and the “right to health” are defined, institutionalized and implemented in relation to international migrant populations and post-colonial minorities, as well as which ethical, social and political questions arise from these international practices.
For the period April 2022 – March 2024 we are inviting 1 postdoctoral scholar (postdoctoral researcher or doctoral candidate close to graduation) to develop and conduct a research project in the following research area:
"Conceptualizations of eligibility and access provisions to health infrastructures and services", focusing on norm-building and policy formulation on the national level, preferably in Germany. The research group is particularly interested in the way in which "health equality" and "migration" is being framed by public health actors and how access policies are conceptualized.
The guest researcher is expected to organize and lead a reading group, to co-organize the research group’s activities (research group meeting, colloquium, lecture series) and to contribute to joined publications.
Requirements:
- an excellent Master’s and/ or doctoral degree preferably in Cultural/ Social Anthropology (or related disciplines)
- methodological training/ experience in empirical/ ethnographic research and institutional analysis
- a research focus on migration and/ or public health including a documented academic publication record
- work experience in interdisciplinary research environments
The appointment as a guest researcher is made according to § 35 paragraph 2 of the Nds. Hochschulgesetz (NHG). Salary (subject to social security contributions) corresponds approximately to a TVL-13 - 50 % position.
The research group strongly encourages qualified women to apply as we place particular emphasis on equal opportunities and the promotion of career opportunities for women.
Please submit your application with the usual documents in electronic form as a single PDF (including a research proposal of 2-3 pages; a CV; academic certificates in English, German or certified translation to English or German) to Dr. Jelka Günther until 14 November 2021.
