DESCRIPTION:The conference theme alerts us to ‘timing’ and thus the di
 fficulty of conducting research on emerging phenomena without becoming a f
 leeting observer ourselves. We ask how long-term research commitments affe
 ct how we conceptualize and construct cases\, how we attend to the tempora
 lities of these cases and how these temporalities in turn affect our conce
 pt work. Inspired by anthropology’s emphasis on long-term ethnographic r
 esearch\, we ask how long-term engagements with research fields shape STS 
 research in practice.
