Doctoral Research Associate /

(salary level E 13 TV-L)

commencing on 1 March 2026 to work with Prof. Dr. Elisabeth Timm (Chair of Cultural Anthropology). We are offering a fixed-term part-time position (50%) for 3 years. An extension is possible (according to legal constraints). Full-time employees are required to teach 4 hours per week during the semester.

Your tasks:

  • This position is tied to working towards a doctorate (50%): Dissertation research with a focus on historical anthropology/everyday history/popular dimensions in the history of knowledge and science since the 19th and with a focus on the 20th century (PhD program in cultural anthropology at the Department 08 History/Philosophy at the University of Münster)

  • Teaching in the BA program Cultural and Social Anthropology, including examinations, also in English

  • Advising students in the BA program in Cultural and Social Anthropology

Our expectations:

  • A graduate degree (Master's degree) in Cultural Anthropology/European Ethnology/Empirical Cultural Studies or a related field such as History/Contemporary History (with proven expertise in Cultural and Social Anthropology and/or Historical Anthropology) is required.

  • Very good knowledge of empirical historical research (material, visual, and/or written sources) is required.

  • Very good knowledge of relevant theoretical and analytical approaches is required.

  • Very good English skills are required.

  • Interest in developing Historical Anthropology in teaching and research.

  • Experience in teaching and/or third mission communication is an advantage.

  • First experience with publishing own research would be a plus.

  • An international/transnational research perspective is an advantage.
