1.) The interdisciplinary Cluster of Excellence “Religion and Politics” at the University of Münster, Germany, is offering up to 3
Postdoctoral Researcher Positions
(salary level TV-L E 13, 100%)
This exciting opportunity will begin on 1 October 2019 within the interdisciplinary Cluster of Excellence “Religion and Politics. Dynamics of Tradition and Innovation”. Applicants are kindly requested to provide up to eight pages describing their intended project (including a bibliography and a project work plan), connecting to the research field of “transcultural entanglement and disentanglement” (preferentially with a focus on the regions of the Atlantic or Indian Oceans).
Each of these fixed-term positions are offered at a 100% TV-L E 13 salary level, which translates into approximately €2.280 net salary per month, including health insurance and social benefits. Currently, the regular working time for full (100%) employment is 39 hours and 50 minutes per week. The positions will last for four years.
The Cluster is an interdisciplinary research association with a thematic focus on the dynamic power of religion as a driving force behind political social change. Disciplines involved include history, political science, sociology, Catholic and Protestant theology, law, Islamic studies and theology, Jewish studies, Egyptology, classical and early Christian archaeology, philosophy, philology, art history, and ethnology. Research questions include how religion can stimulate, curb and modify social and political conflicts, where religion’s dynamic power lies, and which external conditions facilitate or restrict its capacity to mobilize people. We are seeking researchers who have demonstrated exceptional ability in the humanities, cultural Studies, social sciences, or in the areas of law/jurisprudence or theology/religious studies in their doctoral dissertation. We are particularly interested in attracting applicants who possess a clear research focus and can demonstrate their participation in international research networks. Applicants should be willing to participate in the research programme of the Cluster as well as to further their international research profile. We are seeking applicants who can demonstrate high competence in interdisciplinary studies and can prove their ability to communicate their research in a variety of forums. International applicants who are not proficient in German will be encouraged and supported to attend German language courses.

PhD Positions
(salary level TV-L E 13, 65%)
This exciting opportunity will begin on 1 October 2019, and the successful candidates will take part in the Graduate School of the Cluster of Excellence “Religion and Politics. Dynamics of Tradition and Innovation”. Applicants are kindly requested to provide up to five pages describing their intended project (including a bibliography), connecting to the research field of “transcultural entanglement and disentanglement” (preferentially with a focus on the regions of the Atlantic or Indian Oceans).
These fixed-term positions are offered at a 65% TV-L E 13 salary level, which translates into approximately €1.566 net salary per month, including health insurance and social benefits. Currently, the regular working time for full (100%) employment is 39 hours and 50 minutes per week. The positions are available for three years with the further possibility of a completion scholarship. All doctoral projects will be supervised by professors within the Cluster. Besides working on their own projects, PhD students will also participate in the Cluster’s structured Doctoral Studies Programme as well as contribute to the Cluster’s research agenda.
