The Max Planck Institute for the Study of Religious and Ethnic Diversity (Department for Socio-Cultural Diversity) wishes to appoint highly qualified candidates for a number of research positions at the postdoctoral level. Applicants should have a degree in anthropology, sociology, political science, geography, or an interdisciplinary degree with a strong foundation in those disciplines. Successful applicants' research interests, experience and publications should be relevant to themes and topics within the Department for Socio-Cultural Diversity (see www.mmg.mpg.de). The Institute welcomes applications from researchers with either/both quantitative and qualitative research skills and experience.

We are looking for high quality scholars wishing to work on their own projects and in collaboration with Institute colleagues concerning the following themes and relating to European or African contexts:

(a) pro-diversity policies and practices,

(b) organisations, institutions and diversity,

(c) diversification and socio-demographic structures in cities

Initial contracts will be for a period of three years. Salary is based on the German collective bargaining agreement for civil servants (TVöD), level E 13. Applicants need to have submitted their PhD-thesis by 15 March 2020.

Very good spoken and written English is required. The working language of the Institute is English. Work at the institute is required.

Deadline for all applications is 16 February 2020. We are planning to interview 23rd March 2020. All positions should begin between 1 June 2020 and 15 July 2020.
