POSTDOC FELLOW in Science and Technology Studies

In the context of the research project "FoodCoach", which is jointly funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) and the National Research Foundation (NRF) of South Korea, the subject area TECHNOLOGY STUDIES based at the School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS) at the University of St. Gallen, invites applications for a POSTDOC FELLOW in Science and Technology Studies

Key Responsibilities 

  • Conducting empirical research and data analysis on the wider social implications of dietary tracking and intervention in the framework of the FoodCoach project with a focus on exploring user experiences 
  • Ethnographic research on digital health mobile application and big data analysis in the making 
  • Dissemination of research results: Presentation of research results at inter/national conferences, writing research publications, and the organisation of project-related scientific events

Qualifications 

  • PhD (completed or close to completion) in science and technology studies (STS), sociology, anthropology, human geography or a related discipline, relevant publications are a plus  
  • Strong motivation to pursue an academic Career 
  • Demonstrated interest in science and technology studies (STS) and empirical research on topics of digital health, datafication, dietary tracking, apps, algorithms and big data 
  • Experience in conducting qualitative research (especially ethnography) and/or mixed methods research 
  • Good command of one Swiss national language and English, both spoken and written 

The position starts in May 2020 (or upon agreement) and is a part-time position (60%) for a period of two years. The salary aligns with the directives of the Swiss National Science Foundation and amounts to about 46,000 CHF p.a. adjusted to reflect part-time employment.

FoodCoach is an international, interdisciplinary and collaborative research project of the University of St. Gallen, the ETH Zürich and Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) funded under the Korean-Swiss Science and Technology Programme, which is jointly funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation and the National Research Foundation (NRF) of South Korea.
