The School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS-HSG) at the University of St. Gallen is recruiting an Assistant Contextual Studies (50%). Starting date: 1 March 2020 (duration: 3 years)

The position will provide assistance (50% work load) to the Contextual Studies Programme in the School of Social Sciences and Humanities at the University of St. Gallen. Contextual Studies is the largest teaching programme at the University of

St. Gallen, which comprises 25% of students' curriculum each semester. Preference will be given to those applicants, who will pursue a doctoral dissertation (discipline: Technology Studies, SHSS) in parallel to this part-time position and are accepted into the DOK-Programme at the University of St. Gallen. The main place of work will be St. Gallen.

Responsibilities
The job will entail

  • Support of administrative team Contextual Studies at the University of St. Gallen; tasks include
    • Advice/support for lecturers of Contextual Studies and administrative support of the course (incl. technical support)
    • Coordination of student assistants
    • Accounting, payment transactions and bookings
    • Collaboration on temporary projects of Contextual Studies and the School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS)
Selection criteria
The successful candidate is expected to
  • have a M.A. (completed or close to completion) in science and technology studies or a related discipline (sociology, anthropology, human geography)
  • have experience in administrative, teaching and/or research assistance at university level
  • have experience in conducting qualitative research
  • have a demonstrated interest in contemporary social theory in general and science and technology studies in particular
  • have very good oral and written German and English language skills, experience with writing and publishing in English is an asset
  • to work well in a team
  • be flexible regarding working hours
  • take up residence in or around St. Gallen
